As I posted here a few days ago, we had our zine launch this past Saturday at Module.

We had posters on the wall, which were the extra or experimental prints we made during the making of the zines, and also nailed the tea towels on the wall. We showed our zines on a long table.

I’ve been to exhibitions, openings and launches, but it definitely feels different when you are on the other side. Especially since this was my first time doing any sort of launch, and although it was a small one and Mattie was doing it with me, I was still, as always, shy about showing my works. But many came by to check out what we have made, showed interest, and hung out with us through out the day despite the rainy weather.

As we were metro’ing back home at the end of the day, I realized how amazing it is that people would give us their precious time and hard earned money for what we make. Truly grateful. Also big big thanks to Module for opening the space for us, for the generosity, for making this possible <3

GSULF / GROUP EXHIBITION - angdoo.com/blog

Gsulf aka Mathieu Julien aka Mattie aka my man is showing his painting at a group exhibition, Les Graphonautes, which exhibits works of artists who writes as an art form. Mattie has been painting his piece for some time, and it was nice to see it finally hanging on a wall. I felt like a proud mom at the opening : )

The exhibition is at Confluences in Paris, so swing by and see gsulf’s and other artists’ works! ; )

SIGN PAINTING / THE HEIGHTS - angdoo.com/blog

Mattie is an illustrator specializes in type illustration, and his interest lies heavily on  letters. So Naturally, he has been fascinated by sign painting for a while now, and he has been practicing the craft at home. So when my friends asked Mattie to design and paint the exterior signs of their new deli,  he was more than excited to take on his first sign painting assignment.

My friends’ soon-to-be-opening deli and bottle shop is called THE HEIGHTS. It is in Lincoln Heights, so we had to fly out to LA for a week. Even though I was in LA beginning this year, I thought it was a good excuse for me to join him to see my family again, hang out with friends, and also to help him. The job turned out to be quite massive, especially under the LA sun. We spent all week just painting and not doing anything much. But it was very satisfying and fun. And I also got pretty good at climbing up the ladders.

Us, very happy in front of Mattie’s very first sign painting job.

So Mattie’s sign painting business is open if anybody needs their sign painted ; ) Also make sure to visit The Heights for some good deli sandwiches and craft beer bottles, and of course, to see Mattie’s signs.
